SEATTLE — Caleb Williams climbed into a chair on the "SportsCenter with Scott Van Pelt" on the turf at Lumen Field and looked into the fans left in the stands. They were mostly Bears fans — and they were going nuts after the team's 34-17 win Monday against the defending Super Bowl champions.
"When I was brought here they told me that even through the times of [Michael] Jordan and things like that, winning his championships [with the Bulls], that it’s a Chicago Bears town," he told Van Pelt, the ESPN host, Monday night. "If you look right here …they’re pretty spectacular. …
"I want to keep working hard for my teammates and find ways to win games and be at my best, but also to make these fans that paid their hard-earned money to come out and watch us, be proud of us ...
"I want to make these fans extremely proud to be a Bears fan. Each win just builds on that."
Van Pelt called Chicago the best sports town in America and Williams didn't argue. But Williams also seemed wary of the attention the 6-2 Bears will get now that they've becoming a national darling.
"We were supposedly the No. 1 regression team, and now everybody’s going to jump on the train to the other side," he said. "It’s all about what’s in-house and us focusing on that."
