Free Rides and Ballot Boxes Available at LA Metro

Posted

LA Metro is helping Angelenos vote on Nov. 3 by providing ballot boxes at 12 different Metro stations and not collecting fares the entire day.

Free rides on election day were first implemented in 2018 and have been permanent ever since.

Droboxes are located at North Hollywood, Hollywood/Western, Wilshire/La Cienega, Wilshire/Vermont, Westlake/MacArthur Park, Union Station, Pomona North, Harbor Freeway, Norwalk, Canoga, El Monte Transit Center and Harbor Gateway Transit Center.

Additionally, a free 30-minute Metro bike ride is available by selecting “1-Ride” on either the kiosk, app or online and entering the code 110326 at checkout. A credit or debit card is required for this offer.

Install the Metro Micro app to book a free trip on election day. No code is needed for a free ride.

Offers for free rides appear for Metro users every so often, which benefits residents who do not own a vehicle

The newer faregates will automatically open as soon as a customer walks through to enter or exit, and tap readers will be turned off. Older faregates will be set to free spin; no money will be deducted if you tap on the station’s validator.

Ballot drop boxes are open until 8 p.m. however, other locations are also available near bus and station stops. Los Angeles has 400-plus dropbox locations.

During the primary election this year, only 37.81% of eligible voters cast over two million votes. 81.8% of those votes were mail ballots.

Over roughly $400,000 is collected through passenger fares, as predicted by the Metro’s adopted budget.
