INDIANAPOLIS We’re tracking near-record high temperatures this afternoon before a significant pattern shift brings widespread rain late tonight and cooler air by the end of the week.
We’ll flirt with record territory this afternoon as temperatures climb into the mid-70s across central Indiana. The record high for Indianapolis on Nov. 3 is 77° – we’re forecasting a high of 76° , so we’ll come close.

It won’t just be the temperatures getting your attention. Strong southerly winds will gust between 30 and 35 mph at times. Skies will be mostly cloudy, but we’ll stay dry through the afternoon and early evening hours as record warmth hangs on before rain and storms arrive later.

Widespread rain arrives late tonight as a cold front approaches from the west. This isn’t a quick-moving system – rainfall will be steady and at times heavy, especially across our southeastern counties where we could see over an inch of rain. Plan for wet road conditions for the Wednesday morning commute.
Rain continues through much of Wednesday before the cold front finally pushes through Wednesday night. Expect a soggy day with temperatures gradually falling as the front moves through. Rainfall amounts will range between 0.25″-0.50″ over most of the Indianapolis metro area.

Thursday looks dry and pleasant as high pressure builds in behind Wednesday’s cold front. We’ll notice the temperature drop, though, as we return to more seasonable November conditions.
By Friday, highs will only reach the upper 50s to low 60s – quite a change from today’s mid-70s. There’s a low chance of a few showers Friday, but most areas should stay dry.
The weekend and early next week continue the cooler trend. Expect highs in the mid- to upper 50s with overnight lows dropping into the 30s to low 40s. Another low rain chance Sunday, but again, moisture will be limited. After a stretch marked by near record warmth, the pattern now trends cool with only isolated rain chances and no storms.
