U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy of Connecticut remains hospitalized days after suffering a stroke.

Murphy started experiencing numbness in his arm while at his son’s hockey game Saturday, his chief of staff said in a statement. He was taken to a local hospital, where doctors determined he had suffered a stroke.

Murphy was transferred to Johns Hopkins Hospital for further monitoring and was reportedly responding well to treatment.

“The doctors are encouraged by his progress, he is awake and alert, and we are optimistic he will make a full recovery,” the statement said in part on Sunday.

On Tuesday, Murphy’s communications director said the senator remains in the hospital.

“He’s continuing to improve and heartened by the outpouring of well wishes,” he said in part in a statement.

Murphy voted early in Connecticut, according to his communications director, and is encouraging everyone to make their voices heard on Tuesday by voting.

Murphy has served in the U.S. Senate since 2013.
